HMG Paints has provided decorative paint to YES Manchester, a local charity focused on employment and skills development, for a renovation of its community center in Newton Heath. The initiative seeks to enhance the facility, which serves as a key resource for the community.
YES Manchester requested the update to modernize its original center, which has functioned as a key resource since its establishment. Volunteers from across the city contributed to the renovation, ensuring the space retains its fundamental purpose while adopting a refreshed appearance.
Samantha Bridge-Tonner, YES’s operations manager, described the paint donation as both generous and vital. She explained that the center represents more than just physical walls—it is where individuals build confidence, access opportunities, and develop a sense of community. The improvements will help sustain the supportive environment that defines the space.
The original design featured bright pink walls, a color associated with YES’s branding. The renovation team selected a more subdued palette while preserving some original elements. The new color scheme includes Brook, a powder blue inspired by a nearby waterway, and Irk Valley, a green-grey shade referencing the River Irk. Both colors are part of HMG’s Essential Colour Collection, which draws inspiration from Manchester’s local environment and heritage.
The painting process occurred in two phases. First, HMG’s Contract Matt Emulsion was applied to the existing pink walls to create a smooth foundation. Volunteers then used Vinyl Matt Emulsion to apply the final colors, covering both walls and ceilings. The project required careful preparation to ensure a polished result.
In addition to the paint, the renovation relied heavily on volunteer labor. Local residents dedicated time to sanding, preparing surfaces, and applying the new colors, helping the project stay on schedule and within budget. Bridge-Tonner highlighted the strength of the partnership between businesses and volunteers in enhancing shared spaces.
YES Manchester will officially reveal the completed space in the weeks ahead, inviting residents to tour the updated facility. The center will continue delivering job training programs, workshops, and support services in a setting designed to feel more inviting and motivating.
