FP McCann has completed installation of its precast concrete cladding system on The Regent, a new residential building within the high-end Camden Goods Yard development in London.
The project is managed by the Berkeley Group together with Camden Council and the nearby Morrisons Supermarket. It forms part of a broader regeneration effort on an 8-acre brownfield site close to Camden Market. The overall scheme is intended to deliver 644 homes, a range of retail space, and a new Morrisons supermarket that occupies 48,000 square feet of floor area. By linking housing with commercial amenities, the development seeks to create a mixed-use environment that serves both residents and shoppers.
FP McCann, a Tier 2, BIM Level 2 certified supplier, prepared BIM Execution Plans to meet strict Employer’s Information Requirements. The company supplied insulation and horizontal firestopping alongside the architectural façade, ensuring regulatory compliance and building envelope performance.
The building features a striking white fluted acid-etched façade with black acid-etched window surrounds and brick spandrels. This contrast creates a vertical emphasis and rhythmic visual pattern. Monolithic fluted columns act as a defining design feature, producing a bold black-and-white aesthetic that stands out against the area’s predominantly brick-built surroundings. The texture of the acid-etched panels catches light differently throughout the day, adding depth to the streetscape.
The design draws inspiration from the character of nearby Primrose Hill and the openness of Regent’s Park. This approach balances contemporary forms with the historic context of the site, allowing the new structure to echo the natural contours of the hill while respecting the heritage of the surrounding neighborhood.
“The Regent in Camden Goods Yard is a clear demonstration that offsite modular precast concrete construction as part of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) in urban locations not only helps address the current housing challenge but lays the groundwork for a more efficient and sustainable home building industry,” said James Purton, Operations Director for Berkeley. “The building is a real feature of the on-going Camden Goods Yard scheme, and we look forward to partnering with FP McCann on future projects.”
