Internationally renowned interiors, design and architecture studio, Liaigre, has redesigned of the spa complex at Hôtel Costes in Paris, continuing its long-standing dialogue between Studio Liaigre and Jean-Louis Costes. Conceived in partnership with Augustinus Bader skincare, as a sanctuary of calm in a private lower-level space beneath the hotel, the 1,000-square-meter spa features a 20-meter (65-foot) swimming pool, eight treatment rooms and a fitness area. Reflecting a holistic vision of luxury, the space translates Liaigre’s signature language of timeless elegance blended with functionality, and Hôtel Costes’ distinctive air of privacy and exclusivity, through use of noble materials and softened geometries, creating an enveloping quietude that transforms each visit into a moment of deliberate pause. Here, architecture, light, and touch converge to raise well-being into an art form, aligning the architectural experience of the space with a science-led, performance-driven approach to skin health and regeneration. Located in Paris’ 1st arrondissement, just steps from the lively Rue Saint-Honoré, the hotel has long stood as a cultural and social landmark of the city. Reserved for hotel guests and discerning clients, its spa now unfolds as a series of meticulously designed spaces with interiors shaped by softened geometries, noble materials, and a subtle palette of travertine, smoked oak, lacquer, and liquid ambar. The choice for these materials echo those used throughout other spaces in the hotel designed by Liaigre – as do the furnishings and lighting fixtures – ensuring continuity of decorative vocabulary that reinforces the identity of the place. At the base of a sweeping bifurcated staircase, through a heavy-set molded gate, guests are welcomed at a sculpted white marble reception desk, sitting across a luminous hand-painted golden oriental artwork, that sets the tone of refined elegance and curated artistry from the very first step inside. A Dolby Atmos sound system envelops the space in immersive audio, while the air is enriched with the spa’s signature fragrance, creating a fully sensory journey of relaxation and calm. Developed in close collaboration with lighting designer Arnold Chan, Founder of Isometrix, soft lighting rises subtly from the floor, thoughtfully modulated to guide guests through the spa on a carefully curated journey of moods. This sculptural approach to lighting alters perception and gently disengages guests from the outside world, transforming the spa experience into a ritual of disconnection. Within this cocoon-like environment, sharp angles have been consciously eliminated to adopt rounded walls, seamless transitions, and softened materials that express both aesthetic intent and bring comfort to the vulnerability of the partially unclothed body in a spa setting. At the heart of the spa lies the heated swimming pool, conceived for lap swimming with oxygen-enriched waters, and framed as a meditative centerpiece. The lagoon-toned mosaic basin, geometric coffered ceiling, and double treatment cabins open directly onto the pool through large lacquered doors that create a striking architectural composition. Lagune lanterns and Emae wall sconces punctuate the space between each cabin, lending rhythm and warmth to the poolside atmosphere. Eggshell-toned privacy curtains envelop the relaxation areas, while wood daybeds in complementary shades introduce warmth and softness, balancing the space’s crisp architectural lines with inviting comfort.
