Carl F Groupco has facilitated a passing result for the PAS 24 security test regarding Jack Aluminium’s new SD70 heritage door system. Working alongside the Jack Aluminium technical staff and FUHR, the company delivered a multipoint locking mechanism specifically adapted to the system’s specifications.
A joint venture
The partnership combined Carl F Groupco’s status as a primary FUHR distributor, technical assistance from FUHR, and Jack Aluminium’s expertise in system design. The objective was to verify that the hardware satisfied the performance, utility, and security criteria necessary for the test to succeed.
The focus involved incorporating FUHR’s multisafe 856 lever-operated lock, which contains four mushroom rollers and hardened steel cams. Users can choose between standard or heritage-style lever handles due to its lever-operation capability. Additionally, the 65mm backset lock includes serrations that permit shootbolt extensions for taller doors or extra security.
Early prototyping ensures success
Because the SD70 heritage door system features a specific design, the locking mechanism required operation behind a floating mullion. Consequently, early-stage prototyping was utilized to verify fit, operation, and compatibility within the door structure before proceeding to final sampling and testing.
Matt Brown, Regional Sales Manager at Carl F Groupco, partnered with Paul Balfe, Business Development Manager at FUHR, to create prototype keeps and underplates using 3D printed parts. These samples permitted the groups to verify fit and function rapidly to validate the concept prior to entering the final sampling and testing phase.
Technical expertise and support
By providing gearing, product samples, fit-and-function assistance, and 3D modeling files, FUHR enabled the hardware to be accurately demonstrated within the system. This action gave all participants increased technical confidence before testing and ensured the locking solution was perfectly synchronized with the door design.
Both Carl F Groupco and FUHR attended the PAS 24 testing, where Matt Brown and Paul Balfe offered extra technical assistance on-site alongside the Jack Aluminium team to ensure the locking solution operated as expected.
Terry Hirons at Jack Aluminium remarked: “The support from FUHR and Carl F Groupco helped us integrate a locking solution that met the requirements of the system and supported successful PAS 24 testing. Their technical input during development was invaluable and meant the project was delivered to schedule and met performance requirements.”
