For the Spring-Summer 2027 edition of New York Fashion Week, designers repurposed a range of distinctive, iconic and unconventional locations. Shows unfolded in both well-known and surprising sites, such as the Museum of Modern Art and Gotham Park, reflecting the city’s habit of adapting existing spaces for new purposes.
Lincoln Center and Gotham Park
For Carolina Herrera’s 45th anniversary, Wes Gordon filled the David H. Koch Theater with thousands of yellow tulips. The flowers were an homage to classic Herrera motifs and, per Gordon, to the city. “I’ve always loved Park Avenue in the spring, when suddenly all of the tulips are in bloom with the street full of yellow taxi cabs,” he told us.
Ulla Johnson staged her collection beneath the Brooklyn Bridge overpass in Gotham Park. The brand is working with Field Operations, the environment architects behind the High Line, to add more than 750 native plants and trees to the park’s permanent environment.
Museums and Historic Buildings
Tory Burch staged her show in the Isamu Noguchi Sunken Garden. The circular Japanese rock garden sits 16 feet below the plaza of 28 Liberty Street.
Michael Kors sent models down an outdoor runway through the Museum of Modern Art’s Sculpture Garden, walking among trees, fountains, and works by Hector Guimard, Pablo Picasso, and Isa Genzken.
Ralph Lauren presented his collection at Jack Shainman Gallery’s Tribeca flagship for the third time, setting white benches against the space’s marble floors and soaring ceilings.
Khaite cast her collection in cinematic light at the Brooklyn Storehouse, an industrial event space in the historic Navy Yard.
Kallmeyer’s Daniella Kallmeyer staged her show at the Ukrainian Institute of America, housed in the landmark Fletcher-Sinclair Mansion, a French Renaissance-style residence on the Upper East Side. Founded in 1948, the nonprofit supports Ukrainian culture, music, and literature. Kallmeyer’s collection drew on Hideyuki Oka’s How to Wrap Five Eggs and the tactile work of Colombian textile artist Olga de Amaral.
Altuzarra utilized the Woolworth Building for its presentation. The landmark Neo-Gothic skyscraper houses the brand’s headquarters, and models walked beneath the vaulted ceiling of the Gilded Age lobby. The lobby was illuminated to reveal its complex architectural details.
Maria McManus presented her collection at Demisch Danant, a gallery that specializes in midcentury French design by figures including Pierre Paulin, Jacques Dumond, and Pierre Guariche.
Collina Strada staged her show at Storm King Art Center, a 500-acre outdoor museum in New York’s Hudson Valley. Hillary Taymour became the first designer to present a runway show among the institution’s large-scale sculptures, accompanied by a special performance from singer Carly Rae Jepsen.
To mark her 25th anniversary, Rachel Comey took over Greenwich Village’s Judson Theater, a longstanding home for avant-garde performance.
Thom Browne brought his collection to The Shed for the finale of New York Fashion Week. A giant chrysalis anchored the show, and insects appeared throughout the collection, worked into Browne’s signature tailoring.
